Many years ago I heard the esteemed investment legend Warren Buffet offer a simple description of his approach to investing. He said rule number one is ‘Don't compromise the principal.' And rule number two was ‘Don't forget rule number one.'
Enough said. I thought that despite all the uniqueness of each individual investor and possible investment approaches to managing other people's money those simple statements were words to live and invest by.
In my mind the purpose of investing other people's money is predominantly the task of helping them avoid their greatest fears. What people fear most is that they will not be able to live out their lives in the style to which they have become accustomed. That they will be forced to make major or even minor lifestyle changes because they do not have the funds to continue to live as they always have.
My role is to doing everything possible to help my clients avoid those fears from becoming a reality. And in the process we help them to achieve a reality of financial security and peace of mind.
I'd like to tell you I have a tried and true approach that achieves these goals for all clients. That it works without setbacks and only achieves positive results. If so it would sound too good to be true! And the truth is no such approach exists. And you know that.
