Doesn't Anybody Pick Stocks Anymore?
by George Buckley, Investment Advisor, CIBC Wood Gundy
Have you ever wondered why your Investment Advisor may not have recommended stocks to you, and instead has you in mutual funds or other "managed money" solutions?
For smaller investors, mutual funds may be good exposure to the stock market, but for larger more experienced investors mutual funds are not necessarily the answer. Effective stock selection may be.
There is a problem. The average investor or Financial Advisor may not have access to the same information as some highly respected institutions and pension fund managers to make informed decisions about which stocks would be right for their objectives and goals. I have that access.
I am an experienced Investment Advisor with over 30 years managing investment portfolios for affluent clients. I make my stock selection process using an independent analytical system from CPMS (a Morningstar company) in addition to the research of CIBC Wood Gundy, and CIBC World Markets.
It's all about being as informed as possible to make the best decisions. The CPMS research database is the same tool that institutional and pension-fund money managers use. For the last 25 years, these professional money managers have relied on CPMS to create and manage their investment portfolios. Believe it or not, less than 2% of Investment Advisors in the industry in Canada have access to this database.
This database develops model portfolios ranging in content from "value" to "momentum" investing. These models have returned 13% to 21% compounding per annum versus the TSX at only 8.45%*. As a user and subscriber of this database, I have the competitive advantage of being able to offer this time-tested solution that has generated results well in excess of the TSX over the last 25 years.
My extensive experience combined with the backing of CIBC and access to the best tools available has helped me serve the needs of my clients for many years. I have recently relocated to the Oakville office and I welcome the opportunity to introduce you to my investment process. I am confident you will find it of considerable interest.
* Annualized returns since Dec 31st 1985 up to Feb 10 2012 (dividends reinvested).
