David's Info
Uniquely Qualified
I bring a very different level of expertise to the field of retail investment management. As one of only approximately 206 individuals, globally, that hold both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations, I have demonstrated my commitment to the investment industry and achieved the highest level of accreditation that measures the competence and integrity of financial and technical analysts.
I also hold a Bachelor of Mathematics, and studied mathematical theory, computer modeling and acquired exemplary problem solving skills. My previous work for an institutional investment manager with $18 billion under management revolved around model development, portfolio optimization, risk management and other quantitative research. I understand how the different sides of this business work, and can apply institutional techniques to manage risk and increase portfolio efficiency.
Discretionary Investment Management
Few advisors are able to offer discretionary services to their clients. The combined qualifying criteria including accreditation, experience and discipline are very stringent. Many investors are familiar with discretionary investment management, which is essentially what a mutual fund can offer. The key differences in my service is my ability to offer you direct access to the person managing your investment portfolio, lower costs and the opportunity to learn about the strategic changes and rationale behind the investment decisions that are taking place.
Managing Conflict of Interest
I believe that aligning my compensation with the financial success of my clients is key - this is the result of my fee-based investment management style. With fee-based investing you are charged a percentage of your assets under management. This eliminates transaction bias, increases decision-making efficiency and allows us to focus on what is important.
Defined Investment Philosophy
My process combines a blend of both fundamental and technical disciplines. Too many investors don't have a rationale for why they buy a stock and even more fail to have an exit plan in place before taking a new position. Exits and/or a sell plan are far more important that the buy decision since it's the exit that determines whether you make money or lose money! My process is quite comprehensive, and can be better understood by clicking on the "My Publications" link.
